Multidisciplinary Treatment Approach

Dr. Roberts understands that eating disorders affect the whole person, including mind, body, family, community, culture, values and spirituality.  While working in a private individual practice, Dr. Roberts typically coordinates treatment efforts with other medical and mental health professionals to provide a comprehensive multidisciplinary treatment approach.  After an initial evaluation, an individual treatment plan is developed which may involve consultation with any of the following professionals: a dietitian, a medical specialist such as an internist, gynecologist, or cardiologist, a psychiatrist, an exercise physiologist, a couple, family or group therapist.  This multidisciplinary approach ensures that the complex circumstance that contribute to eating disorders are addressed in the most effective and efficient manner possible.  As a crucial member of the treatment team, the client will help direct the course of her own treatment based on her needs and preferences.

Individualized Care

Recognizing that every person is different, Dr. Roberts strives to develop an individualized treatment plan for each client.  While there is no one definitive form of therapy recommended for eating disorders, Dr. Roberts strives to develop a treatment plan for each individual utilizing the most effective “evidence-based” forms of therapy.  Using a combination of techniques drawn from Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Dr. Roberts works with each client to address the unique and complex circumstances that surround the eating disorder.  Clients might participate in individual, couples, family and group therapy during the course of their treatment, and each individual will most likely work with a team of treatment professionals to ensure the most effective and efficient treatment course.
